Our Lady of Charity
Prayer to Carida de Cobre and Reply
Person speaking
Oh, Our Lady of Charity or Caridad de Cobre, hear my plea. I am in great need of your help. I don’t know who else to turn to. I have knocked on God’s door several times, but no one seems to be home. I have reached out to others, but they all seem to be busy with other matters. I don’t know what to do or where to go. I am drowning in the vast waters of emotional pain and desperation. I no longer have the strength to fight and stay afloat.
Why has God abandoned me? What have I done to deserve this? It seems that everything is coming down hard on me, leaving me defeated and discouraged. The burden is too much for me to bear. I can’t do this alone. I need your help. Please, help me and speak to God on my behalf. Ask Him to have mercy on me, and lift this burden from my shoulders so that I may have the strength to help myself.
Caridad Del Cobre's response
My child, I hear your plea. You are not alone. I am here to release some of the burden from your shoulders and carry it for you. I will take your pain and suffering, and make it my own. I will not let you drown. I am here to lead you out of the darkness and into the light. Rest now, and do not be afraid for I am here to watch over you.
God has not abandoned you. He has been by your side. Although you said you were drowning, He was keeping you afloat and calming the waters. Every tear you shed, He was there wiping it away.
Certain life lessons are harder than others. They are necessary in order to nourish the soul.
You are more brave and powerful than you think. Believe in yourself. I will be by your side now and forever.
According to legend, two men and a young African boy were on a boat retrieving salt when a raging storm developed in the bay. The violent waves rocked their small boat sideways, and sensing they were going to die, all three began to pray to the Virgin Mary, asking her to save them. Miraculously, the storm stopped, the sky became clear, and they noticed an object floating in the water nearby. When they approached and grabbed it, they realized it was a, "... statue of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus on her left arm and a gold cross in her right hand. The statue was fastened to a board with an inscription saying 'Yo Soy la Virgen de la Caridad' or 'I am the Virgin of Charity.' Much to their surprise, the statue remained completely dry while afloat in the water."
According to legend, the prayer below was revealed to three fishermen, "who were saved by the Virgin from a raging storm."
"Know ye, my beloved children, that I am the Queen Mother of Almighty God; all those who believe in my great power and become my devotees must always carry my likeness as a relic on their persons to keep them company in their moments of greatest needs. I will free them from any evil threats, from unexpected death, from the bites of rabid dogs, and from attacks of wild beasts; I will keep them from suffering unexpected accidents. A lone woman carrying my likeness shall not be scared, for she won't be bothered by phantasms as long as she says, 'La Caridad is with me. Amen. Jesus!"

O Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Charity!
Filled with joy, prostrate at your feet, I entrust myself entirely to you. Virgin of Miracles, heal the sick, console the afflicted, give hope to the destitute, preserve families from evil, protect the young and innocent. From your Chapel at Cobre, watch over the just, convert sinners, fortify thy priests, and save all Christians.
O Loving Mother Mary, Blessed Virgin of Charity, patroness of Cuba, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
